The terrible spell of the wizard Rothbart turns the beautiful Odette and her friends into swans, and only at night do they take on a human form. Only boundless and sincere love can lift this spell. But the prince had not yet met that girl whom he could love. Guests leave the garden. Siegfried sees a flock of white swans in the sky and, taking a crossbow, goes deep into the forest. Lake Shore. Another moment, and the prince’s arrow pierces the beautiful bird. But, suddenly, the swan turns into a girl, and her beauty captivates Siegfried. Having learned from Odette her secret, Siegfried swears to her eternal love and fidelity. Rothbart watches Odette and Siegfried. He decides to force the prince to break his oath so that Odette will remain in his power forever.

The prince is looking for Odette to beg her forgiveness: after all, at the ball, it seemed to him that he had seen her, and his words of love were addressed to her. The storm begins, which causes Rothbart, wanting to get in the way of Siegfried. The prince fights with the sorcerer, proving his love for Odette. At the decisive moment of the fight, Odette rescues her beloved from a fatal blow. The power of love of Odette and Siegfried destroys the spell of the evil sorcerer.

"Swan Lake" is the most popular ballet of classical heritage. His theatrical fate is a vivid illustration of all the significant aesthetic and artistic changes that the 20th century ballet theater has undergone. Tchaikovsky's masterpiece attracted the attention of many choreographers in the world.
The premiere of Swan Lake took place on February 20, 1877 at the Bolshoi Theater of Moscow. The authors of the script were Vladimir Begichev and Vasily Geltser, choreography director - Vaclav Reisinger.
The ballet theater of the late 19th century required symphonic music for the choreographic embodiment, and Tchaikovsky proposed it. In ballet, external and internal life was contrasted, the antithesis of joyful and melancholic moods was emphasized, the contrasts of a beautiful dream of an ideal and a habitual way of life, the elevation of the mysterious enchanted swan world and the down-to-earth everyday environment of the protagonist were strengthened. Tchaikovsky’s music contains a complex and clear musical drama, which was to become the basis for the corresponding stage-choreographic interpretation. But Reisinger created his ballet, using music only as a melodic-rhythmic basis for dancing. The production failed. The script was overloaded with details and did not have a coherent logical line for the development of the action. On February 17, 1894, the Mariinsky Theater of St. Petersburg again turned to the score of Swan Lake. Choreographer Marius Petipa, together with the conductor and composer Richard Drigo, made a new orchestra. Several notes were introduced into the music – later, reproaches of all who turned to the work subsequently fell on Petipa and Drigo. But it was these changes, strangely enough, that made it possible to create an imperishable choreographic masterpiece, proceeding not from the primary script, but from the spirit of music. Petipa invited to participate in the production of choreographer Lev Ivanov, giving him the romantic “swan” scenes. In the community of two choreographers, such masterpieces of dance were born as the lyrical, soulful song of Odette on female fate and love in Act II and the bright, energetic pas de deux Siegfried and Odile. The image of Odette marked the emergence of a new type of ballet heroine: not brilliant, not just elegant, but lyrical. Swan Lake was approached by many choreographers. It should be noted productions of Alexander Gorsky, Agrippina Vaganova, Yuri Grigorovich. In accordance with the aesthetic, ethical and artistic standards of the 20th century, a romantic fairy tale turned into either a household drama with a realistic psychological and historical justification of events, or a philosophical parable about the duality of the human “I”, or a psychologically pointed narrative about sensual fantasies and the hero’s drama. The ballet Swan Lake captivates even today with poetry, lyricism, melodic music and the choreography of swan dance symphonies. Despite many versions, he is still waiting for new incarnations that will bring future viewers the pleasure and joy of meeting the Beautiful.
