Today we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding conductor Yaroslav Antonovich Voshchak (1921-1989).\n<\/p>\n

Yaroslav Voshchak was the chief conductor of the Odessa Opera in 1963-64. During this time he staged operas “Daughter of the Wind” by J. Maitus, “Carmen” by J. Bizet, conducted “Aida”, “Mazepa”, “Queen of Spades”, breathing new life into old productions.\n<\/p>\n

In 1963, Voshchak came to Odessa, where he began working in the Opera and Ballet Theater. It was here that he met the singer Galina Polivanova, who played an exceptional role in his life, becoming his wife. A bright dramatic soprano, she graduated from the Odessa Conservatory in 1953 and in the same year became a soloist of the troupe. In the year when Voshchak came to the theater, the singer became the People’s Artist of Ukraine.\n<\/p>\n

On February 28, we end the II Festival “Winter Promenade at the Odessa Opera” with the premiere of the opera by J. Bizet “Pearl Seekers”, which will be dedicated to the memory of J. Voshchak and G. Polivanova.\n<\/p>\n
