Today, at the Berliner Philharmoniker's press conference, it was announced that the Orchestra under the direction of Kirill Petrenko will be playing their annual Europakonzert in Odessa on the stage of the Odessa Opera in the spring of 2022.
On May 1, 2022, the most famous symphony orchestra in the world - Berliner Philharmoniker - will celebrate their 140th anniversary on the stage of the Odessa National Opera House! The outstanding orchestra initiated a visit to Odessa, the city where, under the leadership of Pyotr Stolyarsky, one of the most powerful violin schools in the world was born, themselves. The "Europakonzert is a tradition founded by the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1991, whereby the orchestra declared their position as the cultural ambassador of the world in the name of the values of artistic and international unification. “With our musical activities, we want to emphasise the cultural characteristics of the new reorganised Europe,” claims the statement from the Berliner Philharmoniker.
The orchestra of about 100 people under the direction of the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Kirill Petrenko will perform a special concert program, which will be broadcast live from the stage of the Odessa National Opera by the First German State TV Channel and numerous international media partners around the world. The recording of the concert, which is broadcast annually for the millions worldwide, will be added to the unique digital library of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
The organisers of the event from the Ukrainian side will be the NPO "Odessa Development Institute", as well as the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and the State Agency of Ukraine for Arts and Art Education. The main sponsor of the NPO "Odessa Development Institute", founded by the family of Vadim Morokhovskiy, will be PJSC "Bank Vostok".
In the past years, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra had already visited the UK, Spain, France, Greece, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, Italy, Sweden, Turkey, Portugal, Hungary and Austria with an Europakonzert.
The upcoming concert of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in Odessa can surely be called the artistic event of the century for Ukraine. This will become a bright emphasis not only in the historical and artistic sense, will attract attention of the whole world to our country and, in particular, to Odessa, but will also open up special opportunities for Ukraine to develop diplomatic ties and cultural cooperation at a new high international level.
