“Freedom, bliss, pleasure, death, and fatalistic predestination - this is what a love drink, so brilliantly portrayed by Wagner”
— Alexey Losev

It is difficult to say now – for what reasons, we can only state: Wagner’s music has not been played at the Odessa Opera since 1933. Then it was the opera “Lohengrin”, staged by director Nikolai Bogolyubov and conductor Nikolai Pokrovsky. Before that, according to our information, the Wagnerian operas Tannhauser, Valkyrie, Tristan and Isolda were staged in Odessa. In 2013, the whole world will celebrate the anniversary of Richard Wagner (1813 – 1883). Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater is presenting a program by this date, combining scenes, overtures, arias from the composer’s operas. The program was compiled by the musical director of the theater Alexandru Samoile in such a way as to show the best examples of Wagnerian operas in a single canvas. Music from “The Flying Dutchman”, “Valkyries”, “Tristan and Isolde”, “Lohengrin”, “Nuremberg Mastersingers”, “Tannhauser” performed by the orchestra, choir and soloists of the theater – laureate of international competitions Natalia Pavlenko (dramatic soprano) and honored artist of Ukraine Viktor Mityushkin (dramatic baritone). the author of the poster is Pavel Buklovsky (Arsenal RA)
