Jean-François D’hondt

He studied at RITCS between 1977 and 1982. At this film, television and theatre-school in Brussels he got the degree of director/producer.

His career started as an assistant director at the National Opera La Monnaie (in Brussels), and also at the Flemisch Opera and KNS (both in Antwerp). Later he switched to television and worked as director and producer for all the National and commercial stations on both sides of Belgium. He specialised in video streaming of classical concerts and operas. He spend an important part of his career at The Centre Fine Arts in Brussels (Bozar) where he took several responsible duties and produced/directed concerts with such great musicians as Valery Gergiev, Jonas Kaufmann, Cecilia Bartoli, Zubin Mehta, Juan Diego Florez, Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle.

In between his television responsibilities he never stopped directing plays, operas and other big events. He directed «Les Contes d’Hoffmann», «L’enfant Prodigue», «Parade», «The Night of the Proms», «My Fair Lady», «Nabucco», «La Bohème», «Tosca», «Don Giovanni», «Carmen», «Eugene Onegin», etc.

Next season he will direct «Mefistofele», «Orphée aux Enfers» and «Adriana Lecouvreur» in Bulgaria.

He is now working on ballet/theatre and opera productions as a producer and director mostly for Music Hall and Teatro Cinque, as well as for several other companies.
