Description of the festival

The 6th Festival of Arts “Velvet Season at the Odessa Opera” is one of the biggest opera and ballet festivals in southern Ukraine, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Independence of Ukraine, will be held from August 22 to September 15.

The goal of the festival is to attract the largest possible audience to honour this remarkable event in the history of our country, to address different generations of Ukrainians with the language of music, dance, singing with a message to be proud of the history and culture of Ukraine.

Six events of the festival (four unique concert programs, opera and oratorio) demonstrate the best examples of Ukrainian and world music classics and works by contemporary Ukrainian composers.

Three key dramatic events of the festival: the opening concert “UKRAINE – TO THE WORLD”, which will be conveying the major message – “UNITY. WILL. INDEPENDENCE”; ballet gala-concert Classic & Modern “ODESSA. UKRAINE. EUROPE”, which will be an open air event and the final project “KOVCHEG UKRAINE: MUSIC”, will unite the past, present and future of Ukraine “encoded” in a musical reference to contemporaries.
